Summary: 
Set in the Cold War era of an alternate history, the Soviet Union has taken control of the northern island of Japan and cut it off from the rest of the country. Two young boys, Hiroki and Takuya, are obsessed with the mysterious tower that the Soviets have built on the island. They believe that the tower is the gateway to another world, and they dream of one day flying to it. 

The boys are joined by a girl named Sayuri, who shares their passion for flying. They build a plane together, and they make a pact to fly to the tower together. However, their plans are derailed when Sayuri disappears without a trace. 

Years later, Hiroki and Takuya are still haunted by Sayuri's disappearance. They have given up on their dream of flying to the tower, but they are determined to find out what happened to Sayuri.

Personal Opinion: 

I really enjoyed reading The Place Promised In Our Early Days. It is a beautifully written and poignant story about love, loss, and friendship. I was particularly impressed by the way the author captures the feeling of nostalgia and longing for a lost childhood. 

The Place Promised In Our Early Days is a must-read for anyone who enjoys science fiction, romance, or coming-of-age stories.
